Friday 16 October 2026: Vintage Night at Jazzbourne

Warm up for the weekend with a vintage social night at Jazzbourne. Dress in your best vintage swing era style. Vintage cocktails available to purchase at the bar. Get inspired by a video presentation of vintage dance on film, as Juan & Sharon share some of their favourite swing, jazz & tap dance scenes from the silver screen, and talk about the dance legends and masters that have inspired them throughout their careers. Then swing out the rest of the evening, with all vintage tunes for your dancing delight, plus a Lindy Hop demonstration from Juan & Sharon.

Sunday 18 October 2026: Jazz Appreciation Night at Jazzbourne

Wind down the weekend with a social dedicated to jazz music appreciation. Get inspired with a talk about Jazz Appreciation for swing & jazz dancers, with Juan and Sharon. The talk will end with a Q&A to ask any burning questions you might have about jazz, dance musicality or DJ-ing for dancers. Then swing out the rest of the evening with DJ Juan’s selection for your dancing pleasure.

What is the

Level?

Class levels are subjective and hard to describe, but here’s some ideas that might mean this is the right workshop for you:

• You regularly go out social dancing and you are comfortable dancing with many different partners
• You are happy Swinging Out to a variety of tempos and can pull off a Swing Out at, say, 160-180bpm (this song for example).
• You know your 6-count, 8-count and Lindy Charleston fundamentals, and have an expanding repertoire beyond these.
• Your Swing Outs (aka Lindy Turns) and Lindy Circles are comfortable and you already know some different footwork variations and styles (including swivels for followers).
• You probably have some experience with solo jazz and you know your Shim Sham.
• Here are some examples of classic moves that you hopefully already know: Swing Out, Lindy Circle, Tuck Turn, Pass By, Send Out, Promenade / Promenot, Side-by-Side Charleston, Skip Ups, Frankie Sixes, Texas Tommy, Pop Turns, Tandem Charleston, Points, Barrel Rolls, Cuddle/Basket, Hand-to-Hand Charleston, Jig Walks, Sailor Kicks, Sugar Pushes, Minnie Dip, Switches, Quick Stop. You might know these moves by different names.
• We hope you are looking to challenge yourself.
• Not quite sure you meet these criteria yet, but keen to dive in? No problem – just attend with a partner and dance together during the workshop, not joining the group partner rotation. We are perfectly happy for less experienced students to do this, but be prepared that the pace of class may move quickly. Fortune favours the bold!
